Indian team should address weaknesses, says Azhar

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD Feb. 15. The Indian cricket team needs to assess and address weaknesses in batting, bowling and fielding in its World Cup campaign, the former captain, Mohd. Azharuddin, observed here on Saturday.

Speaking to press persons after unveiling what was dubbed as world's biggest cricket bat at The Country Club here, Azharuddin, stressed the need for the team to sort out the confusion over opener's slot.

Asked about his own assessment on the team's chances in the tournament, Azharuddin refused a comment. "At this stage, I cannot comment. All I can say is we need to have confidence in our players.''

On India's poor performance against Australia on Saturday, he quipped, "I was busy all the day and couldn't watch the match.'' The former captain also expressed disappointment at the exclusion of V.V.S. Laxman from the World Cup squad.

Earlier, Azharuddin, unveiled a cut-out of a bat that measured 150 feet in length and 22 feet in width and signed wishes for the Indian team. Claiming that the bat weighs 4,000 kg, the Country Club said they have approached the Guinness Book of World Records for an entry.
