He gave this assurance while addressing a meeting organised by the Kinfra here. The Kinfra had already spent Rs. 15.72 crores on the apparel park, where manufacturing units are beginning to come up. The Kinfra's request is for an assistance of Rs. 17 crores for the further development of the park under the Centre's scheme for promoting the exports of apparel. Mr. Rana said the actual procedure for extending assistance under the Centre's scheme would have to be worked out. He promised to do so as early as possible and added that the State would get the full support of his Ministry in its current endeavours in textiles sector. The Kinfra also submitted to Mr. Rana a proposal for setting up a National Institute of Fashion Technology in Thiruvananthapuram. The Union Minister said this was indeed a good suggestion. He added that he could not make an immediate commitment on this proposal. The managing director of Kinfra, G. C. Gopala Pillai, told the meeting that the All India Handloom Fabric Marketing Cooperative Society would be shortly setting up its unit in the apparel park.
