`SC verdict will provide solution'

By Our Staff Reporter

COIMBATORE Feb. 16. The Kanchi Sankaracharya, Jayendra Saraswati, said here today that the Supreme Court's verdict would provide a solution to the Ram Temple issue.

He told presspersons that neither the Government nor politicians would be able to provide a solution. The Court's verdict would be "supreme" and all should abide by it.

When asked if the BJP had raked up the temple issue with the Assembly elections in mind, he said, "At present there is no election in Uttar Pradesh, where the temple is located. The Union Government is not represented by the BJP alone, so it cannot take a unilateral decision."

On the Vishwa Hindu Parishad's (VHP) February 21 deadline for handing over of the land for temple construction, he said nobody could set a deadline and that "there should and would be some adjustments and they (all organisations involved) would have to go by that".

Asked who were the true representatives of the Hindus and the Muslims in the row, he said, "I am the representative of Hindu society as far as the Ram Janmabhoomi is concerned." The VHP and other Sangh Parivar outfits were helping in propagating the cause. "And there are dharmacharyas in the Muslim community as well to take care but all others are unauthorised institutions."
