The DIG, Murshidabad range, D.P. Tarania, said today that they turned back after the BSF personnel prevented them from entering India. They were encamped at Nimtala ghat on the other side of the river in the night. Mr. Tarania said Bangladeshis often try to enter the Indian soil illegally and sometimes security personnel resort to firing to prevent their infiltration bid. The BSF had prevented the entry of 15 Bangladeshis, women and children, at Sonarpur in South Dinajpur district on Friday. On February 8, the BSF repulsed another infiltration bid by the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR), which massed 400-500 people at Sitalkuchi in Coochbehar district. The BDR later took away the people. On February 6, the BDR had also taken back 213 of its nationals from Satgachi in Coochbehar district in the face of diplomatic pressure. PTI
