Himachal Pradesh
By Kanwar Yogendra
Capt. Singh campaigned aggressively in the constituencies touching Punjab this time and had set the agenda in Hamirpur, home district of the Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister, P.K. Dhumal. The BJP had gone on the defensive since then and its main poll plank of development and good governance appeared to have become a non-issue. Several central BJP leaders came to defend Mr. Dhumal but they could not muster enough public support. Excellent handling of media by the Congress spokesman, Anand Sharma, who presented a list of Mr. Dhumal's assets in Solan, kept the issue burning. Capt. Singh also gave details about three petrol pumps owned by Mr. Dhumal's family members in Punjab. He said Mr. Dhumal's properties in Punjab would be filmed and aired on local channels in Himachal Pradesh and Punjab. He said raids on Mr. Dhumal's factories were not intentional and 500 other factories were raided in Punjab the same day. UNI reports: Capt. Amarinder Singh today reiterated that there was no truth in the allegations levelled by the BJP leader, Madan Lal Khurana, of his relations with a woman pilot.
