Venkatesan, Divya bag a double

MADURAI FEB. 16. N. Venkatesan of Madurai and A. Divya of Chennai with a double each, and Roy Mathew and Suzama, both of Chennai with a treble each, crowned themselves with glory in the Arun-Tamil Nadu State ranking badminton tournament sponsored by HATSUN Agro Products and AIWC Madurai and conducted by Madurai District Badminton Association at MGR Race Course stadium here on Sunday.

Venkatesan won the men's singles and doubles titles and B. Divya won the women's singles and doubles titles. Roy Mathew won the above 30 years men's singles and doubles titles and the mixed double title. Suzama won the above 30 women singles and doubles title and the mixed doubles title.

Mr. K. Malaisamy, President, Tamil Nadu Badminton Association presided and distributed the prizes.

The results: Men: singles final: N. Venkatesh bt Jerry Martin 15-3, 14-17, 15-5. semifinals: N. Venkatesan bt G.D. Yuvaraj Kumar (Thiruvallur) 15-1, 15-2; Jerry Martin bt R. Vijay Anand (Cuddalore) 15-6, 15-5; Quarterfinals: N. Venkatesh bt T. Sathiya (PDK) 15-4, 15-6; G.D. Yuvaraj Kumar bt Muralitharan (TVR) 15-11, 15-5; R. Vijay Anand bt C. Dayalan (MDU) 15-4, 15-5; Jerry Martin bt V.C.D. Sarath Chandran (CBE) 15-4, 15-3.

Men doubles final: N. Venkatesan and E. Raghavan bt David Anand and Jerry Martin 15-7, 13-7 (conceded). semifinals: N. Venkatesan and E. Raghavan bt R. Vijay Anand and K.V. Jayakumar 15-7, 15-5; David Anand and Jerry Martin bt Maran and Roy Mathew 17-14, 15-12.

Women: singles final: A. Divya bt Aneez Kowser 11-7, 11-4. semifinals: A. Divya bt M. Abirami (MDU) 11-0, 11-6; Anees Kowser bt A. Priya (Che) 11-1, 11-1; doubles final: A. Divya and A. Priya bt Anees Kowser and Ramya 11-5, 11-4. semifinals: A. Divya and A. Anees Kowser and Ramya bt Abirami and Shanthini 11-6, 11-4.

Mixed doubles final: Roy Mathew and Suzama bt E. Raghavan and A. Vidya 11-1, 5-11, 13-10; semifinals: Roy Mathew and Suguna bt T. Maran and A. Priya 11-9, 11-7; E. Raghavan and A.Vidya bt G.D. Yuvaraj Kumar and Abirami 11-8, 11-0.

Veterans: Men singles final: Mohamed Ali (Che) bt R.S. Pandian (MDU) 15-7, 15-8. semifinals: Mohamed Ali bt Ubadidur Rehamn (SLM) 15-10, 15-3; R.S. Pandian bt V. Sethuraman(MDU) 15-10, 15-3. Doubles: R. Bharathwaj and P.K.M. Sithuraman bt B.R. Manohar and Ubadidur Rehman 17-15, 5-15, 15-5. semifinals: R. Bharathwaj and P.K.M. Sethuraman bt S.M. Kannan and Nallalagu 15-9, 15-9; B.R.
