Krishna rules out talks on border row

By Our Correspondent

CHIKMAGALUR Feb. 17. The Chief Minister, S.M.Krishna, has reiterated that his Government had no intention of according an inch of land to the neighbouring States. He was speaking at the conclusion of the nine-day Taralabalu Hunnime celebrations here on Sunday.

Referring to the claims made by Maharashtra, Mr. Krishna regretted that the State had been making an issue of the border dispute for the past 40 years ignoring the Mahajan Commission report. Pointing out that the matter had been brought to the notice of the Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee, he said his Government was committed to protecting land, language, culture, and natural resources of the State.

He expressed his gratitude to Shivananda Shivacharya Swami, head of Taralabalu Math for the guidance and support extended by him when the Government faced a crisis. He said the swami had made significant contribution to education and society.

Calling upon the people to contribute to the development of the country, Mr. Krishna said that the Taralabalu Hunnime celebrations had served to promote communal harmony.

B.L.Shankar, Chairman of the Legislative Council, D.B.Chandre Gowda, Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Motamma, Minister for Women and Child Development, C.R.Sagir Ahmed, Minister for Housing, and K.B.Koliwad, Minister of State for Rural Water Supply, spoke.
