Rowdy-gang nabbed in cinema

CHENNAI FEB. 17. The audience at Abirami cinema complex witnessed some `real action' this afternoon when a city police team stormed the theatre and arrested a six-member rowdy gang wanted in several cases of extortion and crime.

A Ford Ikon car used by the gang was also seized.

The JCP (North) C.Sylendra Babu said that the city Police Commissioner, K.Vijay Kumar had formed a special team to track down the rowdy gangs which were active in the city.

The police swung into action when the criminals least expected it and took them away. Those arrested included `Maatu' Sekar, Purushotaman and Kumar of Peravellore. Further investigation is on.

In another case, a two-member gang was arrested and the city police seized Rs.50 lakhs of `hawala money' on Monday evening.

Mr.Sylendra Babu said that on specific information the police team intercepted an autorickshaw near the Ega junction on EVR Salai.
