Eyeing for captaincy

Ace batsman Michael Vaughan has thrown his hat in the ring for England's captaincy should Nasser Hussain decide to step down either soon after the World Cup or subsequently.

"If at the end of the World Cup or in a year's time the job does become available, I would like my name to be mentioned but for now I'm happy to carry on play," Vaughan said.

"I've not heard of many people turning the job down," he stated. Vaughan is among a small group of players who have been tipped for the captain's role.

Speculation about England's next captain has grown after Hussain said he was growing disillusioned with the game's authorities and indicated he might resign after the World Cup. But Vaughan said he would like Hussain to continue to lead the side. "Nasser is doing a great job and we are all behind him and hopefully he will continue."

"I'm not very experienced as a captain and there will be a number of players who would like to be mentioned.

I'm always thinking about the game when I'm on the field but it's pretty hard being an international batsman, fielder and cricketer and that's what I'm concentrating all my efforts on for now."
