Tatas launch another limited edition of Safari

MUMBAI FEB. 18. Tata Engineering today launched a limited edition of Tata Safari only for the domestic market, costing over Rs. 2 lakhs more than the current model.

Buoyed by the success of the earlier limited edition in 2001, the Tatas have now decided to come out with a limited range of 600 Safaris and positioned it as a premium luxury SUV (sports utility vehicle), Vice President (Commercial), Rajiv Dube, told newsmen here.

Mr. Dube said two years ago, it had launched 250 Safaris in limited number, which were sold in less than two months and hence the decision to go ahead with an improved version to provide "enviable luxurious ambience on four wheels.''

He said the Tata Safari had been growing at 30 per cent this fiscal while the utility vehicle segment at 5 per cent and the company hoped to end this fiscal with a total sales of over one lakh units. Sales for the past ten months had crossed 81,000 units, he added. The price for the 4x2 drive is Rs. 11.35 lakhs and 4x4 is Rs. 12.21 lakhs.

The Safari is equipped with a host of features, including Sony playstation that can double up as a DVD player, ten audio and video CD changer, two front head-rest integrated LCD monitors, a 12-litre refrigerator-cum-warmer, 2.5 inch colour LCD based reverse guide system. — PTI
