By Our Special Correspondent
This was stated here today by the Minister of State for Rural Water Supply, K.B. Koliwad, who has instructed officials to prepare an action plan within three days for submission to the Centre. The Centre is giving Rs. 40 crore for each district under the programme. Mr. Koliwad told presspersons that the three districts chosen for the implementation of the scheme are Bellary, Dakshina Kannada, and Mysore. The scheme calls for public contribution to the extent of ten per cent of the hardware component of Rs. 26 crore. Mr. Koliwad said though the programme was sanctioned in 2000, work could not be taken up immediately, as the Centre issued the guidelines only in 2001. In the normal course, the programme should have been implemented before February 2003. The programme envisages the provision of water, by utilising surface or underground water sources, to one village or a cluster of villages. As far as the public contribution was concerned, Mr. Koliwad said there was good response, with Dakshina Kannada collecting Rs. 2.10 crore, Bellary Rs. 98.35 lakh, and Mysore Rs. 1.09 crore. The Centre had released Rs. 125 lakh, Rs.188 lakh, and Rs. 221 lakh, respectively, for the three districts.
