Tamil Nadu-Chennai
By Our Special Correspondent
The DCP (T.Nagar), K.P.Shanumugharajeswaran said the city Police Commissioner, K.Vijay Kumar formed a special team to arrest the culprits. Preliminary investigation revealed that the gangsters who robbed a businessman at Adyar and the following day a dubbing studio owner at Vadapalani had used a stolen car to commit the crimes. The desperados at knife point had got into the cars of the victims and robbed them of their personal belongings and also using their ATM cards. However, police managed to get an image of the culprit which was captured on the CCTV surveillance network at an ATM centre on Anna Salai. "The photographs are captured in images. The security network is such that each time a person uses the ATM counter his image is captured on the camera and stored along with the time. This provided a vital clue in identifying the culprit", Mr. Shanmugharajeswaran said. The camera image was compared with the photographs of ex-convicts available with the police by experts and identified as S.S. Nijamuddin of Perungudi. Investigation also revealed that his associate was Kannan of Jafferkhanpet. The DCP said that police will give a reward of Rs.50,000 to anyone who gave information leading to the arrest of the accused. "All information will be kept strictly confidential". The DCP can be contacted on 98400 31513 and 24349224.
