Pondicherry
By Our Staff Reporter
The delegation presented a memorandum on Tuesday to the Chief Minister, N. Rangasamy, and the Transport Minister, A. Elumalai. A communication from the secretary of the association, K. Thandapany, said today that the increase in fuel prices had seriously affected the bus operators. The memorandum stated that the Tamil Nadu Government hiked the fare recently. The bus operators in the Union Territory were permitted to fix the fare at 25 paise a km and the minimum fare at Rs 3. Following protests from political parties, the Government fixed the fare at 23 paise for a km and minimum fare at Rs 2.50. It said normally there would be difference by one paise only between Pondicherry and Tamil Nadu in the fare for a km. But the difference was five paise and bus operators were put to hardship when diesel prices had been shooting up.
