Poll panel directive to curtail impersonation

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI FEB. 19 . The Election Commission to curtail impersonation in elections has made compulsory identification of voters by means of electors' photo identity card or 17 alternate documents prescribed for the purpose.

Strict instructions have been issued to all polling personnel, especially presiding officers, to hand over to the police, the persons who attempt to impersonate.

As per the provisions under Section 171 F of the Indian Penal Code, whoever commits such impersonation shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to one year or with fine or with both, says an official release from the Chief Electoral Officer.
