`No need for Central forces'
Dr. Rajagopalan, who reviewed security arrangements in Sattankulam for the Assembly byelection scheduled for February 26, said there was no need for Central forces, as more than 1,400 personnel were deployed. Vigil in sensitive pockets had been enhanced with police pickets and night patrolling. In a bid to minimise the number of crimes against women, there was a plan to deploy women constables, attached to the Tamil Nadu Special Police battalions, in police stations. Dr. Rajagopalan earlier called on a Striking Force constable, Gopi (26), injured in a mishap during a security exercise in Sattankulam yesterday. The victim was being treated for spinal problems and the Government would bear the expenses, he said.
