I didn't apologise in court, says Ramadoss

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI Feb. 20 . The PMK leader, S. Ramadoss, today denied that he had ever tendered an apology either orally or in writing in a suo motu contempt petition filed against him in the High Court in connection with the P.T. Lee Chengalvaraya Naicker Trust case.

Referring to media reports in the last week of January, that the contempt case was dropped after he had given an unconditional apology in the court, Dr. Ramadoss said the claim was contrary to facts. Neither in his affidavit nor in the open court did he tender apology. His counsel also did not do so on his behalf, Dr. Ramadoss said, talking to newsmen here.

In the judgment too, it was never mentioned that the case was dropped after his apology. He said that he was rather pained at the press reports and did not have peace of mind for over a week.

Referring to the delayed clarification, Dr. Ramadoss said he could react only after a fortnight as he had received a judgment copy only a few days ago.

However, he would not like to file contempt proceedings against the media as he believed in the press freedom.
