Police opened fire at Amjhera village when people returning from the cremation of a priest killed by dacoits on Tuesday turned violent, the District Collector, Sanjay Dubey, said. The authorities allowed the residents to cremate the priest despite prohibitory orders and violence broke out soon after a delegation of BJP MLAs recorded their grievances, he said. The mob set afire a shop in the village and hurled stones at a police station forcing police to open fire in which a person identified as Ban Singh was killed and two children Rakesh and Arjun were injured, he said. The situation in the village, which was placed under curfew since yesterday, was stated to be tense. Two persons belonging to the minority community were killed at Chadwara village as a sequel to an earlier dispute over a matter related to the controversy over the Bhojshala shrine while he was returning from a police station, sources said. The deceased had objected to the passing of a religious procession near his house on February 6 and had filed a police complaint. While one died on the spot, the other died of injuries. PTI
