Hearing on AIADMK's petition adjourned

By Our Staff Reporter

CHENNAI FEB. 21. The ruling AIADMK's petition seeking temporary injunction on publication of news articles and cartoons pertaining to the AIADMK in The Hindu "without prior verification" was today adjourned to Monday by the Madras High Court.

The AIADMK's treasurer, C. Sreenivasan, had filed the civil suit stating that the article — AIADMK on a gift spree in Sattankulam — was "per se defamatory but could not be measured in terms of money". He sought damages of Rs. 50 lakhs for "the loss of reputation for the party and disgrace, mental agony and pain suffered by the party".

After The Hindu, which was served the notice on Thursday, filed a counter-affidavit today, Justice A. Kulasekaran adjourned the matter to Monday for further hearing. The Judge had ordered a two-day notice to the respondents on Wednesday.
