By Our Legal Correspondent
A Bench comprising Justice M.B. Shah and Justice Arunkumar issued the notice on a petition from K.B. Veerachandra Menon, who contended that the strike call after the apex court gave a ruling the previous day in `Capt. Harish Uppal's case' banning the lawyers' strike, amounted to contempt of court. The petitioner said that after the apex court judgment, he had requested the president of the Thrissur Bar Association, K.R. Vasan, not to go ahead with the strike call to protest against the implementation of the Legal Services Authorities (amendment) Act. However, the Association went ahead with the "illegal" strike and asked its members not to attend the court. He said he and 19 others attended court ignoring the strike call and for this the Association suspended them until further orders. Even as the Munsiff Court had restrained the Association from taking any action against the petitioner and others, the present petition was filed for initiating contempt proceedings against the Association president for deliberately failing to comply with the apex court's orders dated Dec. 17 last.
