This was stated by the AIADMK member, P.H. Pandian, in the Lok Sabha on Friday when the Samajwadi Party's, Ramji Lal Suman, raised the issue of police action against his party leaders, including Mulayam Singh Yadav, in Lucknow yesterday. Mr. Pandian, who was in the chair, observed that the issue of raising State subjects in the House was a debatable question. He went on to add: "The Speaker had fixed a time for a meeting of leaders of all parties in order to discuss whether State subjects can be raised in the House. That is a matter under consideration. If matters relating to States are raised here again and again, it is not good for the concept of autonomy of States and the power of States.'' Though the Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj, did respond to the issue raised by Mr. Suman in view of the fact that some members of the Lok Sabha were involved, Mr. Pandian ruled that "hereafter no State matter, especially matters relating to law and order, can be raised here.'' In fact, on Thursday also, Mr. Pandian had made a similar case soon after the discussion on POTA. When his party's Government came under attack for the arrest of MDMK's Vaiko, Mr. Pandian had noted that issues relating to States should not be raised in the Lok Sabha.
