Jharkand
The government described the protest by the Jharkhand Men's Police Association (JMPA) as ``unjust'' pointing out that ``genuine'' demands of the JMPA had already been accepted or were under consideration. Around 30,000 constables of the state have en masse taken a leave of five days as part of the agitation. Official sources, however, claimed that the total strength of the state constables was 28,000, of which 8,000 posts were lying vacant. The demands of the policemen include time-bound promotion, central pay package for fire brigade personnel, uniform allowance of Rs 1000 per month for CID jawans and state commandos and a blanket ban on the transfers of office-bearers of the district policemen associations. -- PTI
