By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI FEB. 24. A special team has been formed to curb rowdyism on the city outskirts, in the wake of the murder of a tannery owner at Chromepet by criminals operating a protection money `mafia'.

Seven persons surrendered in court in connection with the murder.

The police have also urged owners of tanneries, industrial units and residents to pass on information about rowdy gangs or those who threaten the public directly to the Superintendent of Police, A. G. Pon Manickavel (98412 98769), and the Deputy Superintendent of Police (St. Thomas Mount) 98412 84320.

The information will be kept confidential and the police will take stern action.

Meanwhile, the police have also organised a meeting to get the public response on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at the Sakthi Kalyana Mandapam, CLC Works Road, New Colony, Chromepet. The SP is expected to participate in the programme.
