RTC Cuddapah region notches up distinction

CUDDAPAH Feb. 25. The APSRTC Cuddapah region has topped in the State by recording the highest growth rate of 19.53 per cent in revenue earnings per bus and stood second in the State by increasing gross revenue accrued by 18.10 per cent between April 2002 and January this year, compared to the corresponding period last year.

Addressing a press conference, the Cuddapah Regional Manager, R. Venkatanarayana, said the revenue earning realised in the region was Rs. 155.92 lakhs by January-end, compared to Rs. 85.15 lakhs last year. Similarly, there was a 8.72 per cent rise in earning per km. plied, 8.61 per cent rise in kilometrage plied, 8.23 per cent hike in occupancy rate and 10 per rise in vehicle utilisation, despite the wage revision and frequent hike in high-speed diesel prices, he said.

It was envisaged to realise a 25 per cent rise in earnings by March-end, compared to last year and strive to achieve break-even by the end of 2003-04, by maintaining the rise in revenue and curbing expenditure, the regional manager said. The accumulated losses were reduced from Rs. 11.76 crores last year to 10.63 crores upto January this year.

However, the only matter of concern was the high expenditure on spare parts, tyres and tubes and diesel consumption, he added. The depot managers have been asked to strive for rise in revenue and reduction of the losses and maintenance costs, he said.

Fleet augmentation would be taken up by adding 24 new buses next year and five new buses would be added by March-end, he said. The APSRTC has urged the regional transport authority officials to ensure that seven-seater autorickshaws did not ply on national highways, in accordance with the Government's ban, he said.

Special buses would be plied to the temples from eight depots for the convenience of pilgrims during Sivarathri, Mr. Venkatanarayana said. Special buses would be plied to Polathalakona, Nityapoojakona, Gangamma jathara in Lakkireddipalle mandal, Attirala, Gundalakona, Bhanukota, Jarri, Thimmammamarrimanu, Alladupalle temples, Kanyatheertham, Brahmamgari Matham, Lankamalla forests, Narayanaswamy Matham, Bellamkonda and Agasteswarakona, he stated.
