'Govt. committed to setting up NJC'

By Our Legal Correspondent

NEW DELHI Feb. 26. The Government is committed to the setting up of a National Judicial Commission (NJC), which would draw up a Code of Ethics for judges of the Supreme Court and High Courts.

Giving this information in the Rajya Sabha on Monday, the Union Law Minister, Arun Jaitley, said the National Commission to Review the Working of the Constitution had recommended that a permanent committee comprising the Chief Justice of India and two senior most judges of the apex court, be empowered to examine complaints of deviant behaviour of all kinds and complaints of misbehaviour and incapacity of the judges of the apex and the High Courts.

The Minister said that this recommendation would be taken into account while establishing the NJC.
