`Develop indigenous technology'

By Our Staff Correspondent

HASSAN FEB. 26. It is imperative for entrepreneurs to focus attention on developing indigenous technology, the Chief Executive Officer of the zilla panchayat, R.Narayanaswamy, said here on Wednesday.

Participating in a function organised by Nittor Associates at the Industrial Area here on the occasion of the launch of the Particle Board Spreading (PSB) Machine, a substitute for machines being imported from Germany, he said indigenous technology would assist the country in industrial development.

He said the country lagged behind in wood technology by at least 50 years when compared with Italy, and the PSB machine would help in not only upgrading wood technology, but also tapping the export potential.

He advised entrepreneurs to make the best use of the government schemes meant for small-scale industries.

The Joint Director of the District Industries Centre, Mukunda Krishne Gowda, regretted that the district had not progressed industrially. Although the Government had provided infrastructure to industrialists, the impact of liberalisation on small-scale industries dampened their spirits, he said.

The Divisional Manager, Canara Bank, Shenoy, said despite the environment being conducive for industries, there was lack of entrepreneurship among the people of the district. He urged the local industrialists to utilise the services of SSI branch of Canara Bank in their endeavours.

The Joint Director of Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB), Omkara Murthy, was present.
