Multinutrient shows good results

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD Feb. 26. ``PLANTGRO'', a water soluble multinutrient mixture formulated by an eminent scientist, S. D. Singh, and used extensively on various horticultural plants at the farms of the Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture (CRIDA) here, has been showing excellent results.

In a statement, N. N. Reddy, senior scientist (horticulture), CRIDA, said PLANTGRO contained all essential nutrient elements for promoting crop yields by increasing the net photosynthetic activity of crops. A solution of PLANTGRO is prepared by dissolving the chemical at the rate of 9 gm/ 4 litres of water and then applied to the plants either by drip system for field plants or by using rose can for potted ornamental plants.

Better nutrient uptake and smaller application of irrigation water daily, pushed up the yields tremendously from 28 to 130, 50 to 111, 11 to 24, 4 to 11 and 1.3 to 7.7 tonnes per hectare in watermelon, tomatoes, lady'sfinger, winter maize and pomegranate respectively. It has also been tried successfully on ornamenmal plants like Eranthemum, Pentas, Mussaendo, Croton, Rose and Bougainvillea.
