Forces trying to disturb peace: Minister

By Our Staff Correspondent

BHOPAL FEB. 26. The Madhya Pradesh Home Minister, Mahendra Baudh, told the Assembly today that the State Government was aware of the forces trying to disturb communal peace and harmony. Reiterating the Government's commitment, he said elements that were bent upon fomenting trouble and disrupting communal peace would be dealt with firmly.

The Minister was making a statement on the desecration of a place of worship at Majholi village in Jabalpur district. He told the House that the police had registered a case under Section 295 of the Indian Penal Code after being informed that miscreants had broken an idol and desecrated a temple. A complaint had been lodged on Tuesday by a resident of the village and police were on the look out for the culprits, he said.

The Jabalpur Collector, Superintendent of Police and other senior officers had rushed to Majholi. "A meeting of the citizens' peace committee has already been convened and a new idol has been arranged for installation at the temple."
