CM disappointed with Railway budget

By Our Special Correspondent

BANGALORE Feb. 26 . The Karnataka Chief Minister, S.M. Krishna, said here today that the State had not been given a "fair deal" in the Railway budget.

In a statement, Mr. Krishna said the budget had "derailed" the hopes of the people, who expected a bonanza this year.

It was highly disappointing that the Railway Ministry had ignored the State in sanctioning projects under the Rs. 8,000-crore National Rail Vikas Yojana, he said.

Mr. Krishna expressed unhappiness over the non-inclusion of some of the major projects which had been pending for years such as Kottur-Harihara, Bidar-Gulbarga, Talaguppa-Shimoga, Hubli-Ankola, Chamarajanagar-Mettupalyam, and doubling of the Bangalore-Mysore and the Hospet-Guntakal lines.

Mr. Krishna thanked the Railway Minister, Nitish Kumar, for according priority for completion of the Hassan-Bangalore new line and Mangalore-Kabattur line and also for the introduction of six new express trains.
