Protest over Lata's absence from RS

New Delhi Feb. 26. There were some protests in the Rajya Sabha over the permission sought by melody queen Lata Mangeshkar for "leave of absence'' from the House as she had met with a minor accident and was also suffering from viral fever.

"She never attends (the House),'' nominated member and actress, Shabana Azmi, was heard saying. A couple of Congress members also protested. The Deputy Chairperson, Najma Heptulla, said it was entirely up to the member to attend the House.

The Shipping Minister, Shatrughan Sinha, however, put in a brief appearance after question hour.
