Namibia invites Indian investors

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI Feb. 27. Namibia today called upon Indian entrepreneurs and investors to explore joint venture business possibilities in that country.

The visiting Namibian President, Sam Nujoma, while addressing inter-active session organised jointly by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), said food processing, pharmaceutical, leather and leather products, steel, cement, IT equipment, glass and chemicals were of strategic importance to Namibia.

Mr. Nujoma said his country was open to talks on offering tax holidays to Indian companies on a case-by-case basis. He asked Indian companies to take advantage of Namibia's ongoing reforms on the agriculture sector and land consolidation.

Speaking on the occasion earlier, Digvijay Singh, Minister of State for External Affairs, said India was keen on expanding its exports to Namibia beyond drugs, chemicals, cotton, transport materials and rubber related items.

In 2001-02, Indo-Namibian trade stood at $10 million and it should grow further, he said.
