Letters to the Editor
Sir, The Railways have invested more than Rs. 500 crores in laying the BG line between Salem and Bangalore. But the track is under-utilised causing huge loss to the Railways. Those working in the industries at Hosur mainly hail from south Tamil Nadu. The Minister of State for Railways, while inaugurating the computerised reservation centre at Hosur in November last, almost promised to introduce a passenger train from Salem to Bangalore, a train via Hosur to Madurai and Tirunelveli and a link bogie to Chennai via Bangalore. Only one of the promises of a passenger train has been fulfilled in the Rail budget. The authorities must attend to the needs of this backward district and introduce all the promised train facilities.
