Move to shift bus-stand opposed

SHIMOGA MARCH 1 . An all-party meeting here on Saturday opposed the reported move to shift the private bus-stand to Millaghatta Tank.

It urged the Government to locate it at the Police Parade Ground.

The meeting, which was organised by the District Consumers' Forum, suggested that the private bus-stand be located at the Police Parade Ground as it was the most suited place for it.

The Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, D.H. Shankara Murthy, the President of the District Consumers' Forum, K.M.S. Chandrasekharaiah, the former MP, K.G. Shivappa, the general secretaries of the Karnataka Rajya Raita Sangha, K.T. Gangadhar and H.R. Basavarajappa, the leader of the Janata Dal, B.R. Jayanth, the President of the Civil Liberties Forum district unit, K.P. Sripal, the leaders of the JD (U), P.R. Srinivas and V. Raju, the leaders of the JD (S), S.P. Seshadri, Kallur Megharaj, and R.A. Chabusab, and the Secretary of the District Bus Owners' Association, Ravi, addressed the meeting.

The Shimoga MLA, H.M. Chandrasekharappa, who is identified as the main supporter of the move for shifting the bus-stand to Millaghatta Tank, however, admitted that the Police Parade Ground was the most suitable place for locating it, and promised that he would convey the resolution of the meeting to the Government.

Ponnammal, freedom fighter, presided over the function.
