'No leadership change in Jharkhand'

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI MARCH 1. The BJP central leadership today rallied behind the Jharkhand Chief Minister, Babulal Marandi, whose removal has been sought by five of his Ministers from allied parties.

"There is no question of a change of leadership in Jharkhand. We have decided to convey this to the allies,'' the BJP president, M. Venkaiah Naidu, told presspersons after a meeting of top party leadership here.

Mr. Marandi, who has been the target of the five Ministers — four of whom belong to the Samata party and one to the Janata Dal (United) — briefed the party leadership on the situation.

The Deputy Prime Minister, L.K. Advani, the party general secretary, Pramod Mahajan, the Union Ministers, Yashwant Sinha and Karia Mundia, and 13 other MPs who represent the State, attended the meeting. Mr. Naidu said the BJP had decided to get in touch with the Samata and JD (U) chiefs, George Fernandes and Sharad Yadav, respectively. He said the Minister should not have aired their grievances in public.

Meanwhile, the JD (U) chief and Union Minister, Sharad Yadav, told The Hindu that he has summoned his party Minister, Lal Chand Mahato. "I am confident the matter would be resolved in an amicable manner.''
