Letters to the Editor
Sir, Who is a senior citizen? Banks offer a little extra interest if a depositor is above 60 years of age, acknowledging him or her as a senior citizen. The Rail budget has brought down the threshold limit from 65 to 60 years. The Union budget has proposed some tax relief for senior citizens. For these concessions should one be more than 60 years or 65 as hitherto? The Finance Minister has been silent on this. Or, should one look for any fine print in the Finance Bill or the Memorandum of Explanation? Or, does the Railway Ministry follow one standard and the Finance Ministry another?
D. Subbaram,
