Handed over to U.S.

By B. Muralidhar Reddy

ISLAMABAD March 2. In an early morning raid on a house in Rawalpindi today the Pakistan police has captured Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, the suspected mastermind of the September 11 attacks and number three in the hierarchy of Al-Qaeda network.

He is believed to have been handed over to the U.S.

The U.S. Government had offered a reward of up to $25 million for information leading to his capture.

The Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) leaders have alleged that the raid was conducted by operatives of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) of the U.S. though Pakistan Government insisted that the operation was entirely the handiwork of local agencies.

Mohammed is the third senior Al-Qaeda figure to be arrested in Pakistan. Abu Zubaydah and Ramzi Binalshibh were the others captured in Pakistan since the U.S. military campaign began in Afghanistan in October 2001.
