At its monthly meeting held today, the Council decided that the parking lots be developed on a turnkey basis at an expense of Rs.22.8 crores. These parking lots will have all modern facilities and help in reducing traffic problems in the area. Keeping in view the ever growing pressure on parking lots in the three major markets in the NDMC area, the need to develop the parking lots had become all the more imminent, said a senior Council official, adding that this would also make shopping a pleasant experience for visitors. The Council has also approved the proposal to develop and beautify the external area of Race Course Road particularly near the PM's residence on which Rs.2.35 crores will be spent. The first phase of the project will cover the area between Samrat Hotel and Safdarjung Road-Aurangzeb Road crossing on Kemal Attaturk Marg where the work includes development of parking lots, construction of central verge, improvement of footpaths and improvement of drainage system and development of a rotary on Safdarjung Road. The other Council decisions include replacement of five hydraulic tower ladders used for upkeep of streetlights and other repair works as per the pollution control norms set up by the court worth Rs.68.56 lakhs. Besides, three power transformers will also be purchased to ensure efficient power supply.
