Court gives permission to question Janu

By Our Staff Reporter

KOZHIKODE MARCH. 4. The Sulthan Bathery First Class Judicial Magistrate, Hafiz Mohammed, today ordered handing over C.K. Janu, one of the key accused in the tribal agitation, to police custody till March 7 for interrogation in connection with the case of violent incidents at the Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary in Wayanad last month.

Janu along with M. Geethanandan, another accused in the agitation, had already been remanded to judicial custody for 14 days at the sub-jail in Kozhikode. The Crime Branch Special Investigation Group (III), which is investigating the case, has also approached the court for permission to question Geethanandan, who was under treatment at the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital. The hearing is likely to come up before the court tomorrow. Geethanandan was discharged from the hospital this afternoon.

The police have registered seven cases against Janu and Geethanandan under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Destruction of Public Properties Act. The Forest Department has also framed cases against them. The charges include murder, attempted murder, conspiracy and rioting.
