Policemen seek refuge in a temple in Varanasi on Tuesday as a mob pelts stones on them following reports that place of worship belonging to the minority community had been damaged. Photo: Akhilesh Kumar
The injured included a journalist and policemen. One person had been arrested in connection with the desecration. Tension gripped the area in the morning when people noticed that the mausoleums and graves had been damaged. The locals blocked the G. T. Road and staged a demonstration before the Adampura police station demanding immediate arrest of the culprits. Senior police and civil officers were monitoring the situation and additional police forces have been deployed in the area. UNI
