Rabri threatens to starve Laloo
New Delhi
March. 4.
The Rashtriya Janata Dal president, Laloo Prasad Yadav, may have to go hungry if he does not direct party members to support the Women's Reservation Bill.
This threat has come from unexpected quarters his wife and the Bihar Chief Minister, Rabri Devi. Ms. Rabri Devi conveyed this to the Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj, who contacted her as part of the efforts to evolve a consensus on the Bill.
RJD is among the parties opposing the Constitutional Amendment Bill in its present form which seeks to ensure 33 per cent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies.
"Rabri Devi told me she will stop her husband's dana-pani if the Bill is not passed," Ms. Swaraj said. Ms. Swaraj said she told Ms. Rabri Devi that once the bill was passed, she could treat Laloo to litti chokha (a Bihari delicacy). PTI
