Ayodhya case: trust disputes VHP's claim

NEW DELHI March 4. A religious trust, claiming to be the title holder of the `disputed' and `undisputed' land in Ayodhya and which has been permitted by the Supreme Court to intervene, has refuted the claim of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) that the `undisputed' land should be handed over to it for temple construction.

The application filed by Sri Raj Rajeswari Sri Sitaram Trust will be taken up for hearing on March 6 along with the Centre's application for vacating the interim order banning all kinds of religious activities either in the `disputed' or `undisputed' land.

The Trust said the need to file this application arose on account of recent developments whereby "some miscreants,'' claiming to owe allegiance to the VHP, had placed stones, etc., on the lands of the Trust for the proposed temple construction.

It said the game plan of the VHP was that temple construction would commence by frenzied mobs from all over the country on the lands of the Trust adjoining the acquired land. And the Uttar Pradesh Government and the Centre would take no objection to this.

The VHP's move would lead to communal polarisation and riots all over the country, the Trust said and opposed the demand for handing over the land to the VHP.
