AIYF members plan steps to curb mosquito menace

By Our Staff Reporter

Pondicherry March 4 . Volunteers of the Pondicherry unit of the All-India Youth Federation will take steps to eradicate mosquitoes in the Union Territory. The resolution was adopted at a conference held here on Sunday.

K. Murugan, AIYF secretary, said neither the Government nor the municipal authorities initiated steps to check the menace. The volunteers would spray pesticides in areas, which were densely populated by mosquitoes.

The conference urged the administration to provide educated unemployed youth jobs on a seniority basis in the live register of the employment exchange. Relief should be given during the period of unemployment.

Loans for self-employment projects should be sanctioned and there should be no political consideration in sanctioning them. Enumeration of the youth living below poverty line should be launched for granting assistance from the Government or institutions.

Special programmes should be available for fishermen families where there were unemployed youth.
