Lapang sworn-in

Shillong March 4. D. D. Lapang (Congress) was today sworn-in as the new Chief Minister of Meghalaya.

Twentyseven Cabinet Ministers and 10 Ministers of State were also administered the oath of office and secrecy by the Governor, M. M. Jacob, at a simple function here at the Raj Bhavan.

Meanwhile, a fire broke out in the Raj Bhavan complex when the function was on. The secretariat and the adjacent residence of the Governor's Principal Secretary were gutted. — UNI
