By B. Muralidhar Reddy
Mohammed, along with an unidentified Arab national and a Pakistani, were captured from a house in Rawalpindi in the early hours of Saturday. The arrest triggered a controversy with the religious parties alleging that the raid was conducted by American intelligence agencies. The Mir Zafarullah Khan Government was quick to contradict the contention and asserted that the raid and arrests was the handiwork of Pakistani intelligence agencies. Senior Government functionaries, however, did concede that intelligence information leading to the raid could have come from the American agencies. Even as the controversy over who conducted the raid continued, another one cropped up with the international and local media quoting unnamed sources insisting that Mohammed had been flown out of Pakistan territory. According to speculation, the U.S. has taken Mr. Mohammad to Afghanistan. There he would join an unknown number of Al-Qaeda and Taliban suspects at a secretive holding facility.
