According to Shantha Shetty, Chief Executive Officer of the Holenarsipur Town Municipal Council, 400 title deeds are ready for distribution and transfer of "khatas'' will be completed soon. Title deeds will be issued to the beneficiaries only against the payment of dues. Notices have been issued to 700 beneficiaries to pay balance within a stipulated period. The houses will be disposed of after the expiry of the period. There was some problem in distributing 1,500 houses under the Ashraya Scheme because of political intervention. However, the timely action of the town municipality and taluk administration helped streamline the distribution of houses among eligible beneficiaries. As miscreants damaged the houses by stealing beams and tiles, the entire area in Narasimha Nayaka Nagar resembled a ruin. According to officials, only "ineligible'' beneficiaries had occupied houses. It was a challenge to the officials to vacate them and distribute the houses among the eligible beneficiaries. Shreesylam, Managing Director, Rajiv Gandhi Housing Development Corporation, who visited the area recently, expressed dissatisfaction over the distribution of houses and sought speedy action. He appointed Assistant Commissioner, P.C.Jayanna, as Special Officer to oversee the process. Under instructions from the Assistant Commissioner, the authorities in the town municipal council and the revenue department swung into action to regularise things. The efforts of the officials yielded results and the process of distributing the houses to eligible beneficiaries is on, according to officials. The Mangalore Electric Supply Company has agreed to a Rs.21-lakh estimate prepared for providing electricity to the houses. A few beneficiaries are repairing their houses and according to officials they will be compensated. The houses in the colony are being numbered and they would be distributed on presenting ration cards and voters' identities for authentication.
