DoT `congestion' hits users of cellphone

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI MARCH 5. "All lines on this route are busy. Please try after some time. The DoT network is currently congested. Please try again later" - was the message all cellphone users in the city received on Wednesday when they tried to call any landline number.

While BSNL sources said there was some minor route congestion at the Flower Bazaar exchange in the morning, sources in one of the private cell operators, blamed the problem on "congestion in the DoT network" not only in Chennai but all over Tamil Nadu.

But, even as the "blame war" continued, the cellphone users were deprived of the facility of calling any landline number.

Only cellphone users having BSNL WILL units were able to get connected to the landline numbers, sources in the Chennai BSNL Telephones said after testing the facility during the course of the problem.
