The scandal led to protests and closure of the colleges on January 13. Talking to mediapersons here, Mr. Kumar said the report of the committee, headed by the district revenue officer, N. Jayaraman, was submitted to the Government. The committee members spoke to students, parents, temple officials and staff and the college principal and lecturers. Two of the three girls, whose names were mentioned by some organisations in their deposition, told the committee that no such incident took place. A parent of the third girl, who deposed on behalf of her daughter as she was suffering from ill-health, also denied that the incident took place. Documentary evidence provided by some organisations was bogus, the Collector said. About 200 persons deposed before the committee. The police would investigate who spread the rumour. A separate warden for women's college hostel would be appointed soon. The police would also enquire into "irregularities" in the women's college. Students' demands for improved college facilities had been forwarded to the Government for immediate action.
