Sports fostered the qualities of grit, determination and single-minded commitment and working as a well-knit team, she said delivering the valedictory address to the four-day long event. She gave away prizes and trophy to the winners. Considering the significant role sports played, she said the Government issued orders providing for 10 per cent reservation for outstanding sports in the police. A similar reservation had been made in the prison and forest departments. Pointing out that she was placing emphasis on "community policing" and sensitisation programmes, Ms. Jayalalithaa said she believed that sports and playground could play an invaluable role in bringing about police-people interface. The police could also channel the energies of that section of youth, which had a feeling of drift and directionless. They could be involved in sports through youth clubs to overcome their frustration. Sports could provide a fresh approach to community policing. The All-India Police Sports Control Board chairman, K.P. Singh, and the Director-General of Police, R. Rajagopalan, detailed the achievements of the police force in both national and international sports events.
