By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI MARCH 5. An aged woman was relieved of her four sovereign gold chain on First Main Road, Indira Nagar, on Wednesday in full public view. The victim raised an alarm alerting some local residents who gave a chase in vain. The desperado escaped along with his associate who was waiting with a motorcycle close by.

Rajeswari (70) was returning home after giving food for her grand daughter studying at the nearby Hindu Senior Higher Secondary School when she was targetted, according to her son, Sivakumar, an executive supervisor in the BHEL.

"The culprit surprised my mother from behind. He took away the chain using a cutting device. Luckily, my mother did not suffer any injury", he said.

Another resident of Indira Nagar, First Main Road, S.Ramani, a power plant consultant, said in the last few years, several incidents of chain snatching were reported in the area. In a recent incident, Leela Krishnasamy (55) was targetted by a group when she was returning home after a morning walk.

The culprits escaped with her gold thali chain.
