Letters to the Editor
Sir, I wish to bring to your attention a picture from Larry Collins & Dominique Lapierre's book Freedom at midnight. This book was first published way back in 1976 and the picture has therefore been in the public domain for 27 years already. If we had a rogues gallery in the Central Hall of Parliament, this picture would suit it most eminently. The characters in the picture, as per the book, are as follows: Front row, left to right: Narayan Apte, 34, V.D. Savarkar, 65, Nathuram Godse, 39, Digamber Badge, 37 (turned state witness). Rear: Shanker Kistaya, Gopal Godse, 29, Madanlal Pahwa, 20. The picture of Savarkar that they have hung up now in the Central Hall with such fanfare should be discarded.
Subramanian Iyer,
