RPG Life to market Cyclosporin in U.S.

KOLKATA MARCH 6. RPG Life Sciences Ltd (RPGLS), the biotechnology arm of RPG Enterprises, plans to market Cyclosporin, used in kidney transplantation, in the U.S. global generic drug market. To this effect the company also plans a joint venture with an U.S. based company at Puerto Rico. Initially RPGLS will supply the bulk drug to the JV to produce the drug locally. The demand for Cyclosporin in the U.S. market is estimated at $450 million.

According to a company release, RPGLS is now in the process of receiving approval for its patent and formulation from the U.S. authorities.

Launched in India three years ago under the brand name Arpimune ME, RPGLS is already marketing Cyclosporin in the Latin American markets. The company has received orders worth $25 million from various countries in this region including Mexico.

K. K. Sharma President and CEO, said Cyclosporin was the first product of the company. "We are confident about our entry into the large U.S. market, which will help generate the critical volumes.''
